However, consumers under this madhab are advised to exercise heightened caution when using oregano essential oils, flavour extracts, or liquid preparations — seeking explicitly halal-certified, alcohol-free products.

Hanbali School: The Hanbali school closely aligns with the Shafi'i position in being cautious about any product where a prohibited substance has been used in processing. For the raw/dried herb, the Hanbali ruling is permissible without reservation. For extracts processed with ethanol, many Hanbali scholars hold that the prohibition remains unless the alcohol is definitively absent from the final product — a stricter reading than the Hanafi istihalah principle.
